LAX Road Closures

As we enter the new year, LAX continues its modernizing efforts. Part of a $4 billion expansion project, these long-needed “upgrades” include new concourses, gates, and an expanded customs area. In addition to that, the long-awaited and much needed Automated People Mover train project is underway.

Set to begin operation in 2023, the “Automated People Mover” train will reach speeds of 47 mph on a journey beginning just outside of the airport. From there, it will transport passengers high above Century blvd. at speeds up to 47 mph to the terminal of their choice. With an anticipated use of approximately 30 million passengers per year, it should eliminate almost 117,000 vehicle miles per day of LAX traffic.

Unfortunately, all of this progress comes at a cost. LAX road closures and rerouting of traffic are the norms and heavy traffic is the word of the day.

According to NBCLA, more  LAX road closures will be in effect for the LAX Central Terminal Area beginning January 13th. Southbound East Way from World Way to Center Way will be closed, meaning major delays in the area until January 27th. Please allow yourself an additional hour of travel time to combat possible delays.
