LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles International Airport is the fifth busiest airport in the world. Long known for its constant delays and endless congestion, much of it is expected simple due to the overall size and albeit poor design of an airport for one of the busiest destinations in the world. But (LAX) is working on correcting the problems thanks to a massive injection of $30 billion for LAX upgrades that are currently underway.
LAX Upgrades Underway
Some of the planned improvements, many that are currently underway, include:
Automated People Mover (2024) – An automated, electric train that will transport people between terminals, including three stops outside the airport.
Smart parking (Fall 2023) – a new 4,300 space Economy parking lot on 94th street that accepts parking reservations to help ease parking woes and eliminate the massive traffic inside the airport
Terminals 2 and 3 (December 2023) – In addition to the recent improvements to Delta Airlines, (ticketing, baggage claim, and security) LAX is adding a new Delta One check in counter and a proposed 9th gate to Terminal 3
Other changes include:
- major upgrades to Terminals 4 and 5
- Terminal 6 gets access additional gates and to the new People Mover
- Additional restrooms, baggage space, and concessions for Tom Bradley International terminal
- a consolidated rent-a-car area
- Biometric boarding
These are just a few of the current and proposed LAX upgrades that once completed, will make the much maligned Los Angeles International Airport pretty much an entirely different airport. It also promises to be a much more convenient, efficient, and desirable destination for travelers from around the world
