The date that many airport travelers have dreaded is finally here. As of October 29, 2019, all taxis and other rideshare services like Uber and Lyft, will no longer be able to pick up arriving passengers at LAX. Due to major over-crowding, as LAX undergoes a major transformation in advance of the upcoming World Cup and Olympic designed to enhance the traveler experience and give customers better and faster ways to access terminals.
In addition, A new consolidated Rent-A-Car facility, an intermodal transportation facility and an automated people mover train connecting everything together are slated to be active by 2023.
At the same time, every single terminal is being modernized. With all of these projects underway over the next three and a half years LAX will see major construction that includes closing as much as 30% of the curb that’s used for pickup and drop off.
Everything Changes October 29th
As of October, 29th, LAX-it will be the new, convenient way to connect to your Taxi, Lyft, or Uber ride. Once your flight lands, these “Free Shuttles,” will stop at marked LAX-it Stops on the first level just outside of baggage claim every 3 to 5 minutes. With a maximum of two stops before heading to the LAX-it area, your trip will take between 8 and 15 minutes, so plan ahead.
Fortunately, travelers who use traditional TCP-licensed commercial luxury ground transportation like ATLS Car Service will be relatively unaffected by the change. LAX SAYS NO TO UBER AND LYFT, points out that TCP licensed transportation will continue to pick-up arriving passengers on the LAX Loop lower level. The only change is, pick-up’s will now only be allowed from the outer curbs on the lower level.
LAXit is here, if you plan on using it, be sure to allow additional time, (roughly 30mins) to get to your ground transportation.
